about me

Hello, fellow nature enthusiasts! I'm thrilled to share a bit about my journey as a botanical and biophilic designer. My name is Salena Jensen, and my life has been an adventure through the vibrant world of plants.

My love affair with flowers and foliage began early in life as I was raised by a brilliant floral designer. I was then led to crafting wholesale flower bouquets at a large commercial greenhouse near my home. I was thrilled to later have the opportunity to work in the floral design shops across the lower mainland. Surrounded by the fragrant symphony of blooms, I quickly discovered my passion for arranging nature's palette into captivating displays. From delicate bouquets to the likes of a jungle take-over, I reveled in the art of bringing the outdoors inside.

As my green thumbs grew, I ventured into the realm of landscape and golf course maintenance, keeping outdoor spaces as living, breathing works of art. I found joy in creating harmonious green havens for people to reside and escape to.

But my heart longed for a deeper connection with nature, a desire that led me to dive into the world of maintaining municipal parks and public trails. I nurtured green spaces, ensuring they thrived in all their leafy glory. Maintaining the delicate balance between human enjoyment and the well-being of our plant companions became a fulfilling mission. I took a hiatus from this sector to start a family and become a very proud mother of two.

Yet, the call of the jungle never ceased along with my lifelong love affair with tropical plants. And so, I took the leap and found my slice of heaven deep within a wildlife refuge where the calls of howler monkeys resound through a jungle dream that dance with the gentle lapping waves of Caribbean beach in Costa Rica.

Now, as the proud owner of this tropical haven and permaculture farm-in-progress with my husband, affectionately named Botanica Beach, my mission is to share its beauty with the world. With the lush hues of exotic foliage and the soothing rustle of palm fronds, I aim to bring the essence of this tropical utopia to as many environments as possible. Whether through botanical designs, or the creation of biophilic spaces, I'm on a mission to spread the magic of the jungle, and all of its plant affiliates, far and wide.

A commitment to forever learning and embracing the embodiment of all the wonder plants have to offer, has found me in horticulture studies with botany and plant identification. Attending workshops and courses, such as decorating with flowers, herbal medicine making and wild edibles has deepened my reverence and understanding of the immense and infinite power of plants when utilized in all their splendor.
